#12 Mionca Hall finished with three steals for HPU
ST. LOUIS, MO - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team fell in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA III Women's Basketball National Tournament to Transylvania University 52-65 at the Washington University Fieldhouse Friday evening.

In the first meeting ever between the schools, the Lady Jackets jumped out to an early lead, 11-5. Transylvania battled back and used a 12-0 run to take the lead 11-17 with 11:10 left in the first. Transylvania controled the boards, pressured the Howard Payne guards, and forced 12 first half HPU turnovers. Howard Payne was down 22-29 at the half.

Transylvania continued to pressure HPU in the second and built their lead to as much as 22 points with 7:44 left in the game. The Lady Jackets never gave up and were able to cut the Transy lead to 13-points with minutes remaining. HPU fell in the end 52-65.

Transylvania was led by Holly Milburn with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds. Olivia Akridge followed with 14 points and 4 assists.

Hope Hohertz led Howard Payne with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Sarah Jockers and Katy Sarem each added 10 points. Jockers also added 8 rebounds. Sarah Pfiester also grabbed 7 rebounds.

The Lady Jackets finish the season at 23-6 overall and three-peat as the American Southwest Conference Champions. It is the 6th consecutive 20+ win season for the Lady Jackets.
