HPU Get Win At University Of Dallas Tournament

Kelsey Miller scored a team-high 15 points and was 8 of 8 from the free-throw line in the win

IRVING, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets used a big first half to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan 70-59 on day one of the University of Dallas Tournament Monday afternoon. 

Freshman Kelsey Miller came off the bench and scored 15 second half points for Howard Payne. Miller was 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. 

The game stayed close the first 8 minutes for the game at 12-9 Howard Payne. The Lady Jackets then outscored Nebraska Wesleyan 24-8 to finish out the half and hold a 36-17 halftime advantage. 

NWU chipped away at the HPU lead and brought it to single digits late in the second half. The Lady Jackets held on though and secured the 70-59 victory. 

Howard Payne outrebounded NWU 33-23 and the Lady Jackets shot 50% from the field in the game. 

Nebraska Wesleyan was led by Shea Rasmussen with a game high 27 points. Kelsie Woodard added 16. 

Along with Kelsey Miller's 15 points, Howard Payne got 10 points from Sarah Pfiester and 9 from Brittany Zamora. Elaine Hobbs, Hope Hohertz, and Mionca Hall all grabbed 5 rebounds each to lead HPU. 

Howard Payne improves to 10-1 overall and will play St. Joseph's College on Tuesday, the final day of the University of Dallas Tournament.
