Jackets Eliminate Patriots 3-2

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Howard Payne's Corey Howie recorded the complete game win 3-2 over the University of Texas at Tyler in the elimination game of the 2014 American Southwest Conference tournament.

The Yellow Jackets eliminate defending ASC champion UT-Tyler (16-26) 4-3 from the tournament and will play the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday at 1:00 pm. 

Rightfielder Dustin DeJohn broke the HPU record for sacrifice hits in a season recording two sac hits versus the Patriots. DeJohn now has nine on the year with previous record being held by Ricky Zamora with eight in 1990.

Howard Payne opened the game up with a two-run top of the first. Kyle Kulczyk doubled down the left line to score Colton Brown and John Elmore from second and third.

UT-Tyler would score one in the fourth on a single through the right side.

In the eighth, Colton Brown scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch after reaching on a single and stealing second base.

UT-Tyler then pulled within one on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. 3-2 HPU

HPU's Corey Howie went the distance in the win striking out five to improve to 5-6 on the year. Howie allowed two runs on six hits and walked just two.
Brown was 2-for-4 from the plate and Kulczyk finished 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
