WSOC Advances On PKs In Rd 1 Of ASC Tourney

Lauren Hankins-Hatcher scored a goal and the advancing PK for the Lady Jackets

ABILENE, Texas - Howard Payne University's Lauren Hankins-Hatcher scored a goal and the last goal of a shootout to advance the Lady Jackets past the University of Texas at Tyler in the first round of the 2011 American Southwest Conference women's soccer championship tournament.

Tied 1-1 after regulation and overtime periods, Howard Payne advanced after winning a shootout 10-9. The Lady Jackets had two opportunities early in the shootout to end it but PK attempts went high.

HPU keeper Adrienne Walker came up huge in the shootout stopping three UT-Tyler attempts. Walker also had five saves in regulation and overtime play.

The Lady Jackets scored first in regulation when Shannon Costello found Lauren Hankins-Hatcher in the box for the score in the 41st minute.

HPU held their lead till the 83rd minute when UT-Tyler's Jordan Johnson scored on a Emily Bechdol cross.

Neither team found the net in the overtime frames and the Lady Jackets advance in the tournament on PKs 10-9.

Howard Payne will play host Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday at 11:00 am at the HSU Soccer Complex in the second round.
