MARSHALL, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team complied 38 runs in a three-game sweep of East Texas Baptist University 13-1, 12-7, and 13-2 this weekend.
In game one of Saturday’s double header, Howard Payne held a 5-1 lead going into the 6th. In the top of that inning the Jackets blow the game wide open adding six more runs.
Kyle Lloyd had 4 RBI on 3 hits.
Will Hood got the complete game win allowing only three hits and striking out 5.
In game two, it was a big top of the fifth for the Jackets scoring 5 runs to make it a 9-0 HPU lead. HPU freshman
Carlton Brown had a huge game with 4RBI on 2 hits.
Billy Ray Cruz got the win throwing 5 and 2/3 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits.
In the single game on Sunday, the Jackets continued their dominance at the plate opening up a 10-1 lead at the end of the 5th inning.
Jordan Hammontree had 4 RBI on 2 hits. Freshman
Jonathan Morris got the win pitching 7 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 run. He struckout 6 and walked none.
The Yellow Jackets who are off to their best start in over five years improve to 7-3 on the year while the East Texas Baptist falls to 5-3 on the season.
Howard Payne will play a three game home series this Friday and Saturday versus the University of the Ozarks.
