Sidman Named To ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team

RICHARDSON, Texas - Howard Payne junior tennis player, Ross Sidman, was named to the American Southwest Conference Spring 2009 Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team the ASC office annouunced on Friday.
Ross Sidman finished his third season with the HPU tennis program. He played a key role in the Jackets making the ASC postseason tournament. He is a two-time Academic All-Conference selection, a member of the HPU President’s List, and an All-Conference selection. This year he received the HPU’s Scholar-Athlete award for highest GPA in the athletic department.
Overall, 68 student-athletes from ASC baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field teams were named to the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team.
The honor, in its second academic year, recognizes student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list – limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport – the Sports Information Directors from the conference’s 15 member institutions vote on a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete from each sport.
