BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jacket women’s basketball team has in the recent years been heavily involved in the community. This season they are volunteering their time reading to elementary students at schools in Brownwood and Early.
“The Lady Jacket Reading Program is something that we feel will reach the young kids in Brownwood and Early communities,” said Joshua Prock head HPU women’s basketball coach. “Our program believes strongly in education and that learning how to read at a young age is extremely important.”
The Lady Jacket Reading Program is where the women’s basketball team will go and meet with all of the elementary schools in Brownwood and Early. They are going to read to each young student. Typically they will read a book or two for 15-20 minutes and then talk to the young kids about the importance of reading, education, and the important role the teachers play in their lives.

“We want to support all of the teachers in both of these districts and let them know how important their roles are in the young lives of these communities. We look forward to seeing everyone this school year.” added Coach Prock.
They also explain to the young students that the Lady Jacket basketball team would not be where they are today without learning how to read at a young age.
The women’s basketball team has already visited Northwest Elementary and Coggin Elementary this year and will be making the rounds to the rest of the elementary schools in Brownwood and Early.
