BROWNWOOD, Texas –– The attendance at NCAA women’s basketball games hit a record number during the 2007-08 season and for the second straight year, Howard Payne University was tops among Division III programs.

Howard Payne, the national and American Southwest Conference champions, averaged 1,549 fans and totaled 23,234 spectators overall at 15 games at Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas. The Lady Jackets this season went 33-0 and gave the ASC its first national championship, Howard Payne has won 37 straight games on its home floor.

ASC members Louisiana College (708) and Hardin-Simmons (688) were also in the top 10 in average home attendance, ranking at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.

As a whole, the 15-team ASC totaled the most fans in the country at 83,470. The league’s average of 474 spectators per game ranked second in the nation.

The NCAA all-divisions total of 11,120,822 eclipsed 2006-07’s record of 10,878,322. Division III’s attendance of 1,198,495 also set an all-time mark.
