FORT WORTH, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team played a non-conference double-header against Texas Wesleyan University and fell 3-5 and 3-13 to the Rams.
In game one the Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Texas Wesleyan opened it up in the 4th placing 4 runs on the board. The Rams went on to win 5-3.
Logan Nelson after starting the game pitching solid gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, he walked 1 and struck-out 2. Cale Thompson was 2 of 4 in the game with an RBI.
In game two the Jackets got on the scoreboard first again scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Texas Wesleyan bats were too much as they scored 4 in the bottom of that inning and added 6 runs in the 3rd, 2 in the 5th, and 1 in 6th.
Billy Ray Cruz got the loss for the Jackets throwing 2.0 innings giving up nine hits. Kyle Lloyd and Taylor Zambreski each recorded two hits in the game.
The Jackets will be on the road this weekend in American Southwest Conference action at McMurry in Abilene.
