RICHARDSON, Texas ––Howard Payne University freshmen forwards Takenda Cotton and Kelli Wentworth won player of the year awards to highlight the 2008 American Southwest Conference women’s soccer awards, the ASC office announced on Thursday after a vote of the league’s 14 head coaches.
Takenda Cotton (Brownwood, TX / BHS) was named ASC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference as a forward after tying for the league lead in goals with 15 and helping the Lady Jackets double their win total (10) from the previous season. Cotton also had five game-winning goals, five assists and took 73 shots.
Kelli Wentworth (Wylie, TX / WHS) was voted ASC Offensive Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Conference as a forward after scoring 14 goals and adding 9 assists. She also lead the ASC in points on the season with 38.
