Celtic Hall Of Famer Visits HPU Basketball

Bailey Howell was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Basketball Hall of Fame player and Celtic great, Bailey Howell, took time to visit with the Yellow Jacket men's basketball team about basketball and life on Monday.

Bailey Howell meet with the Howard Payne basketball team before their practice on Monday and shared with them about his experiences in basketball. "Don't take any shortcuts, go the extra mile, and do things the right way," said Howell.

Bailey E. Howell is a former professional basketball player. A 6'7" forward from Mississippi State University, he played 12 seasons (1959–1971) in the NBA as a member of the Detroit Pistons, Baltimore Bullets, Boston Celtics, and Philadelphia 76ers. A six-time All-Star with 17,770 career points, he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997. He won two NBA championships with the Boston Celtics. He resides at his home in Starkville, Mississippi where he is very active in Mississippi State athletics fund-raising. The award for the best collegiate basketball player in the state of Mississippi was named in his honor in 2006, and the award is given annually as the Howell Award.
